Sleep is the debut solo single by the singer-songwriter Timothy Heller. It was released on October 19th, 2017.

Background

To Timothy, releasing Sleep was "a really easy first step" in returning to music. When she was a part of Dresses, she had been struggling with mental illness and had an extremely unsupported team around her. She was being discouraged in writing music. But she found herself and her faith again in "Sleep" and, because of this, it's a very important song for her.^[1]

Theme

According to Timothy, she wrote this song when she was around 18 about a situation where her friend's boyfriend had just cheated on her. The verses are the boy begging his ex-girlfriend for forgiveness for cheating on her while the chorus is told from the perspective of Timothy's friend. She is extremely sad and desperate to ease the pain, so she sleeps it off.
